Day 7 - Ferry from Nanaimo to Vancouver

After great night in a Sharon's house , morning started not so good due to bad weather. At 8 a.m. I was almost ready to go, my goal was to catch the ferry to Vancouver at 8 p.m.Unfortunately, fog reduced visibility to 50m, so going alongside the road was pretty risky, therefore I decided to wait.

At 9 am still foggy!

At 10 am - better now, it was getting warmer, I was geared up, ready to go.

Around 10:30 we got in the car to leave me in the spot I was picked up yesterday- I want to go across Canada without cheating. Early stage was easy- roads, city. People were stopping and smiling! It was connected to my post on Facebook, I guess. Even mayor wrote to me! Many people knew who I am and what I am doing.

Next part went alongside the highway, it was pretty safe - concrete wall and much space to walk. It was around 3km to go. Weather was good, I felt comfortable and rested.

My next decision was to go with the railway - I decided it will be the safest option. Trans Canada Trawl is not complete - one of the bridges is missing, it's poorly marked, navigation is really hard. Railway seemed to the best choice. So I was walking. Kilometer after kilometer! I decided to don't stop, even for a meal. I had to catch the ferry at 8 pm!

The railway part was boring, I stopped and gas station in Nanaimo Airport, then bought some chocolate bar and 0.5l of water. Then I got back on the trail. I was walking, and walking, and walking, then suddenly - the board:NANAIMO! Oh, yeah, babe! I did it! 1 kilometer of railway and the road! I felt pain in my legs, it was getting harder to keep walking. I was in the city, but still 9 km to go and it was 5 pm! I was trying to choose the smaller streets. It was getting darker, I grabbed some water and had to get back on the trail as fast as I could. Morale was getting lower....

This stage was really hard, despite of the target's closeness my legs were burning more with every step. I couldn't stay there for a night! I had to go!I was 2 km from the ferry I was semiconscious, almost running. Only half and hour to departure! At 8pm i was on the parking? And I knew that the ferry should leave at 9pm - the worker told me. I met the deadline!

The ferry was very comfortable, I had a row of seats just for myself - as you can see in the movie. I captured the scene and fell asleep while listening to the music. My legs were killing me, but I knew that I will be in Vancouver soon. I met the very interesting person during my ferry journey - greetings for Liv! She was very nice to me, despite my overall appearance. We had a small talk when the ferry arrived. Then I met Mr Zenon and Mr Janusz, who offered me an accommodation.

What an evening!! I've done my laundry and now time for pizza! Regeneration! That smile says everything! I was somewhere I didn't know exactly where but I knew the name of the city - Squamish. It was not important! Everyone talked in Polish! My people!

Special thanks to Mr Zenon, Mr Janusz and Mr Jurek for a great help in Vancouver and all these small things, which made my journey easier!
